Red Flag Detectors #3: What To Do When Someone Says Something that Stings
Facts, Feelings, and Arrows
During my short hiatus from the Untangled Faith podcast, I’ve been investing my time in paying attention to the whispers and arrows that say, “This is the way. . .”
I’m pretty sure that’s one of the ways the Holy Spirit directs us.
One of those arrows is the feeling that is stirred up when someone says something that triggers me. I shared about it a bit with my Patreon community. I’d love to have you join us there.
I’m pretty sure it was KJ Ramsey who posted something recently about how our feelings aren’t facts, but that they are still valuable for us to pay attention to.
My therapist loves to ask what I’m feeling (of course she does!). But she moves on to ask another clarifying question: What does that feeling need?
That answer is an arrow worthy of following especially when you hear someone make light of your pain or process.
2 Questions
As I’m paying attention and praying for direction for the podcast, would you be willing to help me? Would you email me (or respond below) with the kind of questions and topics that would be helpful to you?
And, my second question for you, today is to ask if you would consider helping me defeat Boz Tchividjian in our efforts to raise funds for GRACE? GRACE is a nonprofit organization that does third-party investigations and safeguarding training to help our faith communities to become safer from abuse. Last I checked, we were winning, but Boz has been smack-talking and you just never know! Here’s the link to donate: Interrupt the Pattern (funraise.org) I’ll be matching the first $1,000 and have already started adding my match to the fundraiser. I didn’t mention this to my husband yet, but I’m sure it will be fine. :-)
Thanks for being the best!
Amy
