Red Flag Detectors #3: When Narcissism Comes to Church
A powerful question I learned from Chuck DeGroat & what's coming up next.
I wanted to tell you a few quick things before I dive deep into prepping for this week’s podcast.
Narcissism thoughts
Not long ago, I sat across a screen from Chuck DeGroat.
I have no idea why I waited so long to interview him for the podcast. His book, When Narcissism Comes to Church, has had a huge impact on me. In fact, I was on the launch team for that book before I ever uttered any public words about our family’s most painful experience with a narcissistic Christian leader.
This will sound dramatic, but it’s true: Learning about narcissism changed my life.
And I’m not the only one.
This video from Dr. Diane Langberg, about systemic narcissism, set us on a trajectory that changed everything. Author, KJ Ramsey recently shared she had a similar experience with stumbling across that video. If you haven’t watched it, you won’t regret spending your time on it.
One of the most powerful takeaways from my conversation with Chuck was the power of asking this question:
If you want to have healthy relationships, asking “How do you experience me?” and being open to an honest answer is a great start.
A YouTube Channel?!
This week’s podcast was also shared in video form on YouTube. It would be a huge help to me if you would subscribe to my channel there.
Coming up this week
Y’all. This week’s podcast content has been (and still is!) quite a bit of work for me. I’ll be sharing a double-header that includes some impression management analysis from Dr. Wade Mullen of audio that I know you all will benefit from hearing.
The second part of the double-header will feature some people who have been on the receiving end of experiencing words weaponized in a way to protect certain people and discredit others.
I’d appreciate your prayers as I wrap up this project.
And, if you want early access, my Patrons will be getting access mid-Tuesday. You can sign up on Patreon if you want in on the fun!
Thanks for all your support and encouragement!
